Today's Date is:
Recycling Program

Dear Lower Gwynedd residents,

Lower Gwynedd Township approved a three-year contract with Waste Management to continue to provide trash and recyclable collection to its citizens. The new contract begins on November 1 and includes the innovative, state-of -the-art RecycleBank Program. You will receive a wheeled tote, recycling container during the week of October 29. Beginning November 1 you may place cardboard in the new tote along with the other items you have been recycling in the past. We are pleased that Township residents will continue to receive high-quality service from Waste Management.

It is also my pleasure as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Lower Gwynedd Township to announce the beginning of a curbside recycling program in the Township that rewards you for participating! I urge you to be part of this new and responsible way to dispose of recyclables. Recycling is both environmentally wise and fiscally prudent; in more ways than one, it pays to recycle! We believe that this program will put Lower Gwynedd Township in the forefront in recycling in Montgomery County, thereby doing our part to save our precious natural resources and limited trash disposal facilities.

Each week when you participate, you will receive a credit or reward for the amount you recycle in the form of RecycleBank Dollars. Your RecycleBank Dollars can be redeemed for rewards at many national retailers and local retailers in the Township. All you have to do is call RecycleBank or log onto their website to claim your earned rewards. We anticipate that the township will receive additional state grant monies for the increased volume of recycling. These funds will help the township keep real estate tax rates the same as it has for the past twelve years.

Your first day of the new recycling program will be Monday, November 5. Please note you no longer have to separate your paper products from the commingled recyclables. As in the past, collection of recyclables will be on Mondays. Collection of trash will also continue to be on Mondays and Thursdays. If a holiday falls on a collection day, Waste Management will be collecting trash and recyclables the day after the holiday. These added collections were included in the contract as a result of responses we received from citizens in a recent survey. Waste Management will continue to bill you directly. The cost for the additional trash collections, adding cardboard to the recycling stream and the new RecycleBank collection program is $36.78 per month or $110.34 per quarter, which cannot increase for the next three years.

If you wish to return the recycling bin you have been using, simply place the empty bin at the curb on Monday morning, November 5 or drop it off at the Township Building. Thank you for participating in Lower Gwynedd's new curbside, single-stream, recycling program. Thank you also for supporting a cleaner and greener Township. If you have any questions, please call Waste Management 1-800-3281717 or the RecycleBank Office at 1-888-727-2978.

Sincerely,

Edward J. Brandt
