Summer Concert Series At Oxford Park

Come and join the Parks & Recreation Department as we kick off our 2008 Summer Concert series. You will not only be entertained on Wednesday evenings in the summer by great musical performers but your family can also sit back and enjoy an evening full of family fun at Oxford Park (Cambridge Dr and Welsh Rd, North Wales).

New for 2008: In the event of inclement weather the performance will be cancelled.

June 11 - Cool Beans Band
Steve Pullara and his Cool Beans Band's music is spirited and zany crossing over into many diverse avenues ranging from Folk to Bluegrass. This eclectic diversity makes his music very appealing to a wide audience from kids to adults. Their interactive children's / family mix of upbeat, traditional and original songs keep moms, dads and kids very well entertained. A good time is guaranteed for all!

June 18 - Surf N' Turf
This five-person band plays instrumental surf tunes and covers of the 1960s vocal hits. Four of us played in bands during the 1960s, and have recently returned to the music scene.

June 25 - James Day and The Fish Fry Swingers
This Jump Blues Band adds a little Swing and with New Orleans styled songs.

July 2 - Celtic Crossroad
Traditional music of Ireland, England, and Scotland with great harmonies and intricate accompaniment. The group has been playing in the Delaware Valley for 30 years. The arrangements use 3-part vocals, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, whistle, and bodhran. Their a capella version of Danny Boy has been downloaded around the world by thousands of fans.

July 9 - Annie Bauerlein with Chip Mergott
Husband and wife duo Chip Mergott and Annie Bauerlein, perform "fun, family folk music". They sing both cover and original songs, duets, as well as heartwarming and humorous family songs.

July 16 - Wissahickon Pops
Formed by students from the Wissahickon School district and lead by Dr. Jim Madden this orchestra brings a tremendous amount of talent, energy and passion with every performance. During the Summer the Orchestra travels playing at a variety of venues. A concert not to be missed.

July 23 - Rock A Phillys
They rock, they roll, they deliver great harmonies to boot with a repertoire spanning from the 40s R&B and boogie woogie to Jumpin Blues and Western Swing. Lindsay Gilmour, Liz Staruch and Melissa Martin are The RockaPhillys and they deliver 100% fun and frolic with their vocalicious stylings.

July 30 - Mountain Laurel Blue Grass Band
Performs music from the bluegrass greats like Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley. They also play classic country songs from people like Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, and Ray Price. They've performed on television, radio, at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and they're the only act to have performed every year at Bethlehem Musikfest. Mountain Laurel has been together for over 25 years.

August 6 - Zydeco-A-Go-Go
Back by popular Demand! What do you get when you combine: accordion, rubboard, saxophone, bassist and a few other secret ingredients ~ Zydeco-A-Go-Go. This Philadelphian group has combined years of Cajun and Bayou to form the Zydeco sound which no one can resist. The New Orleans rhythm and blues along with the swinging Louisiana rock & roll mixed with a little gumbo and other tropical instruments like the calypso and forro make for a irresistible toe tapping, swing dancin' evening.

 

Family Nights at Pen-Ambler Park

Pen-Ambler Park is Lower Gwynedd Township's and Ambler Borough's joint park. This newly developed park has a lot to offer and on Tuesday evenings, come and be transferred to the Shakespearean era, or be mesmerized by Eric Paul's magic tricks, or simply check out Science Explorers as they come in educate your children on the crazy happenings that revolved around Chemistry, a show not to be missed.

Tuesday Evenings starting June 10 until July 29 (No Performance July 1), beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Amphitheatre

Tuesday June10 - Science Explorers ~ Crazy Chemistry
Join us as we delve into the eye-popping world of chemistry! Experience exothermic and endothermic reactions, witness a liquid change into a solid right before your eyes, examine the effects of dry ice and observe color changes in our acid and base lab.

June 17th - Artists in Rhythm
Watch Artist in Rhythm, Bucks County's hottest non-profit professional contemporary dance company. Come join us and see their talented dancers bring alive the music of Steve Perry and the legendary rock band Journey. This will be an evening of memories and summer fun!

June 24 - Steve & Steve
Steve & Steve is an acoustic 60s duo that's simply been unable to get the sounds of the 60s out of their heads for the past 39 years! Moved as much now as they were then by the catchy two-part vocal harmony-dominated 60s songs popularized by such artists as Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Chad & Jeremy and Peter & Gordon, Steve & Steve (each a musician trapped inside a lawyer's body) has a mission: "Keepin 60s music alive!"

July 1 - No Program scheduled

July 8 - Magic of Eric Paul
Eric Paul is not only a well known Magician with many tricks up his sleeve but he gets the audience involved and the comedy that he brings will leave you not only in stitches from laughing but your mind wondering how he just did what he did.

July 15 - Give and Take Jugglers
The Give & Take Show will surprise and please you. It has impressive juggling, comedy, and lots of audience involvement. We use an antique calliope, traditions from vaudeville, circus arts, theater, and live music to create a lively and wholesome show that feels fresh and contemporary. We appeal to a wide range of ages: children, adults, (and even most teenagers).

July 22 - Shakespeare's Greatest Hits
Theatre Horizon's acclaimed professional actors from Philadelphia perform Shakespeare's greatest hits! Speeches by Hamlet, Lady MacBeth, Romeo, and more favorites come to life in this script-in-hand reading of the Bard's best villains, lovers, and heroes. Bring a picnic blanket and travel back in time to Elizabethan days!

July 29 - Theatre Horizon Shakespeare
Theatre Horizon's teen acting troupe brings Shakespeare to life for one night! Performing outdoors, just as actors did at the Old Globe Theatre in England, these performers embody Shakespeare's most famous characters, bringing humor, tragedy, and the poetry of the Bard to life with a modern twist. Best enjoyed by those 10 and up. Picnic dinners welcome!
