Trash Collection

Attention... Attention... Attention Lower Gwynedd Township Residents

The Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors recently awarded Waste Management of Pennsylvania, Inc. a new three-year contract for the collection and disposal of your trash and recyclables. This new contract becomes effective November 1, 2010. There will be several changes to this new contract that WM would like to bring to your attention.

1. Your service fees will be reduced. This new pricing structure will be reflected in your next quarterly invoice.
2. The incentive based recycling program with RecycleBank, will be replaced with Waste Management's "THINK GREEN REWARDS" program. More information forthcoming with a complete step-by-step process to register and begin to benefit from this exciting program. You will also be notified by RecycleBank.
3. Your blue RecycleBank cart will be replaced with a green and yellow WM cart.

The new quarterly fees for residents utilizing the 96 gallon cart collection services will be $89.88, effective November 1, 2010. This is an 18.5% reduction in your current trash and recycling services. Residents currently using the low volume services, where no trash cart is provided, will be invoiced $44.10 per quarter. The cost per trash bag under the low volume plan is $2.50 per bag. Bulk items (in excess of one per month) will remain at $30.00 and extra yard waste and leaf waste bags (in excess of 8 per pickup) will cost $2.50.

Waste Management's "THINK GREEN REWARDS" program is a community wide, incentive based recycling program where residents within Lower Gwynedd Township are rewarded for every pound of recyclable collected. Think Green Rewards offers you discounts and coupons for entertainment, dining, travel and more. The program features a partnership with "The Entertainment Book" rewards. The Entertainment Book allows rewards to be searched according to zip code, providing national appeal with local flair. Effective November 1, 2010 you will no longer earn RecycleBank Points from recycling pickups.

Your blue RecycleBank recycle cart will be replaced with a Waste Management green and yellow cart. This exchange will occur the week of November 29, 2010. Please leave your empty RecycleBank cart at curbside after your recyclables have been collected. The exchange of the recycle cart may not occur on your actual service day. It may take a few extra days for removal, so please leave it at curbside. You will receive a reminder notification in the weeks to come.

PUBLIC NOTICE

On July 14, 1997 the Board of Supervisors enacted Lower Gwynedd Township Ordinance 346 authorizing the designation by the Township of a single trash hauler for the collection, transportation, and disposal of municipal waste, bulk items, white goods, freon-containing appliances, leaf waste, grass clippings, and recyclable materials from all residential units in the township except those who properly and timely elect to use the services of another hauler ("opt out"). Copies of Township Ordinance 346 are available at the Lower Gwynedd Township building.

The Township held a public bid on September 19, 2004 and Waste Management of Indian Valley has been designated as the Township trash hauler from November 1, 2004 until October 31, 2007. All residential units will have one month to elect to opt out and use a hauler other than Waste Management. If you are not a residential property or you are are in a residential community that contracts it's trash services as a whole, such as a condominium association you may disregard this notice. This one-month period commences on October 15, 2004 and ends on November 15, 2004. All opt-out forms must be received at the Township Municipal Building by November 15, 2004.

To elect to opt out and use a hauler other than Waste Management, please fill out the bottom of this notice and return it to Lower Gwynedd Township, 1130 N. Bethlehem Pike, Spring House, PA 19477 Attn: Assistant Township Manager. Additional forms may be obtained at the Township Building. If you do not elect to opt out and use another hauler other than Waste Management, you will be obligated to use Waste Management from November 1, 2004 until October 31, 2007.

All commercial properties and communities whose trash hauler is contracted by a Homeowners Association or management company are exempt from this program.
